In a world filled with technology like iPads, smartphones, laptops, Xboxes, the word “play” takes on a totally different meaning than when we, parents, were young. How many of you Dads remember telling your Mom that you were going into the woods to build a fort and would be home for supper or Moms, jumping rope (Double Dutch), hopscotch and jacks for hours.Well today, young people as early as 2 are mesmerized by technology – staring at a screen for hours either on a social media site, playing a video game or watching a movie. Good old fashioned playing is missing and we should make sure our kids”play”. Playing will also help them have a healthier lifestyle, hopefully free of drug & alcohol use.
